YUM!
Date: Thursday, October 11, 2007
Team Members: Rob Rolison, Jim Shoemaker, Julia Perdue, Mary Bryant and Tammy McClain
Are first appointment, with ??? was canceled due a death of a friend.
We went to our next appointment at 7:30 to have Bible lessons 1 and 2 with the mechanic, Soter Carrera and his family. We had shown the video to them last fall. They had a table set up outside where we gathered with Soter, his wife, daughter, son, sister and assistant from the shop. They were very attentive during the lessons and participated in the conversation well.
Then as Mexican tradition would have it, they started bringing out the food! There had been a fire burning in a grill all the time we were having our study, little did we know that it was to cook us a meal! They bring out steak, sausage links, guacamole, refried beans and tortillas! We were all still so full from our big lunch and now we had to eat again! Eye Yi Yi! Didn’t want to be rude! So we ate!?!?!
Moving on to our next appointment we didn’t know if we would make it in the door. We came to see Virginia, but her mother met us at the gate and was apprehensive about allowing us in. She said that they did not have lights and were busy, but finally agreed. We went in and since the lighting was not adequate and the mother was not really wanting to us to be there, Rob told the stories instead of us to condense the lesson as much as possible. Rob did a great job and Virginia and her brother understood very well and even Moma chimed in towards the end.
Well, it’s back home tomorrow and as I get back into my regular routine, I pray that I will keep the people of Santiago ever in my thoughts and prayers throughout the year.
